2005 Myrtle Beach Area Local Development
The Grand Strand is one of the fastest growing areas in the United States and current development includes a wide range of new businesses established and/or planned during 2004. These include entertainment centers, restaurants, motels, golf courses, business and resort centers, and general services.
Restaurants
New restaurants that opened during 2005 include
Cracker Barrel, Red Lobster, Abuelo’s Mexican Food,
Beef O’Brady’s, Senor Frogs, East of Chicago Pizza,
Ruby Tuesdays and Eggs Up Grill in Myrtle Beach.
Flying Fish Grille and Fire Island Grille opened in North
Myrtle Beach. Carrabba’s and Chick-fil-A opened in
Murrells Inlet.
Hotels
In 2005 a contract was signed with the Sheraton,
making them the new operator of the Myrtle
Beach Convention Center hotel. The Sands resort
hired Boykin Management company to oversee the
management of its 1,100 condominium units along
the Grand Strand.
Businesses
The area had several new business openings in 2005,
including the Conway National Bank in Pawleys
Island. First Choice, Animal Supply House and PWG
USA LP opened up in Myrtle Beach. The Piggly
Wiggly opened on Highway 501 and Carolina Forest
Boulevard. ISG opened in Georgetown and Integra
Fabrics opened in Loris.
Stores
New store openings in the Myrtle Beach area in 2005
included Giti, Casual Corner, Petite Sophisticate,
Jasmine, Delia’s, Spencer’s Gifts, Dollar Store, The
Icing and Rooms to Go at Coastal Grand Mall. Also,
at Coastal Crossings Corner on Seaboard Street and
17th Avenue South, the Lifeway Christian Store,
Suncom and Pearle Vision opened. Tinder Box, Color
Inc., Comfortable Soles by Birkenstock, Lids, Claires,
Vanity, Crazy Shirts Inc., Carolina Vineyards Winery
and Somewhere in Time Studio opened in Barefoot
Landing.
Roads
As of August 2005 four new lanes on Farrow Parkway
opened, giving drivers a link between U.S. 17 Bypass
and Kings Highway between U.S. 501 and 544. These
lanes provide drivers with safer and more convenient
thoroughfare to connect U.S. 17 Highway and
Socastee to Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach. Myrtle
Ridge Road has also been completed. It is 1.46 miles
long and connects U.S. 501 and U.S. 544.
On the Horizon
In the near future I-73/74 will connect at I-95 and
branch off to the south,where it will connect with
U.S. 22, and branch off north, where it will connect at
the N.C/S.C. border. Also in the works is the Fantasy
Harbour Bridge which will be built to span across
the Intracoastal Waterway at Harrelson Boulevard.
The bridge will become part of Myrtle Beach’s
metropolitan loop. In North Myrtle Beach, The Prince
Resort is being built and it will have 427 units, and
in Myrtle Beach the Hard Rock Theme Park is under
construction and expected to open in the spring of
2008.
