Myrtle Beach skyline towards Atlantic OceanMuch has changed since 1938, when the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce opened for business. What has remained constant though is the commitment of the local business community to pull together for the economic good of all. It is this unity that is the very essence of the community and the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce.

The purpose of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce is to promote, protect and improve businesses along the Grand Strand from Little River south through Pawleys Island. Our membership consists of almost 2,400 businesses and nonprofit organizations. Our primary objective is to help businesses grow and add to the area’s economic success and quality of life.

Some of our 2006-2007 accomplishments include:

  • Attained an 85 percent retention rate. Added 390 new members.

  • Through a collaborative effort with city partners and Myrtle Beach Convention Center, secured United States Lifesaving Association and National High School Coaches Association for 2007. Both groups have strong potential to return for multiple years, bringing close to 20,000 room nights into the area over the next five years.

  • Welcomed more than 215,300 people at our welcome centers. Answered more than 155,087 telephone calls and fulfilled 403,971 qualified inquiries.

  • Hosted a “Myrtle Beach Meets the Big Apple” immersion tour for editors in New York City and visited editors throughout New Jersey and Philadelphia.

  • Obtained state matching tourism dollars through the Tourism Promotion Fund of $3.75 million.

Learn more about our accomplishments and the activities we have planned for this next year by downloading your copy of the 2006-2007 Annual Report.
